The Samsung LN52A750 (and its little brother the LN52A650) are the most popular 1080p LCDs of 2008.

Not only does the A750 a 120Hz LCD allowing it to feature Auto Motion Plus and 5:5 pull-down support for 24 FPS sources, it also is comes with some very cool multi-media features like media center software that allows you to play pictures slide shows, videos, and stream RSS feeds on your TV! The Samsung A750 series was/is the best HDTV of 2008.

Did I mention the picture is phenomenal?

The Samsung LN52A650 (and its big brother the LN52A750) are the most popular 1080p LCDs of 2008.

The A650 has Auto Motion Plus with reduces motion blur in high-motion scenes. The A650 also one of the best contrast ratios (50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio) for a LCD allowing for very rich blacks and extra-vibrant color.

The picture on the A650 will not disappoint.

The Panasonic VIERA TH-42PX80U is good 720p plasma TV. The contrast and picture quality is phenomenal. My only hesitation would be the 1024 x 768 resolution which is caused by the use of rectangular pixels and is the lowest of the 720p resolutions. That being said it does have a very nice picture and is a excellent TV for your average TV watcher and/or video game fanatic.

Normally I don’t recommend Sony’s because they are usually overpriced. That being said the Sony BRAVIA KDL52W4100 is being priced fairly competitively and is an excellent 1080p @ 120hz LCD. If you’re looking to upgrade your main HDTV, the Sony KDL52W4100 is a top contender.

Did a mention it support 24p True Cinema video processing - a must have for for Blu-ray viewing?

The Samsung A550 line was 2008’s favorite, and arguably the best, 1080p @ 60hz LCD HDTV. Between the A550 and its 120hz big brother the A650, Samsung took home the crown of the most popular LCD HDTV manufacterer of 2008, and for good reason. The A550 has an incredible picture, low motion blur for a 60hz LCD and a very elegant look. If you’re in market for a GREAT 52″ HDTV that won’t break the bank, pick up a Samsung LN52A550.

The Philips 52PFL3603D/27 is a decent middle of the road 1080p @ 60Hz LCD. Honestly, I would pass this up for a Samsung LN52A550 LCD HDTV or (save up and) spend a couple more hundred on a 120Hz Samsung or Toshiba. This set will give you a nice picture, but unless you’re getting a killer deal on this TV, you’re probably better of looking at some other brands.

The Samsung LN32A450 is an exceptional 32″ display, probably one of the best buys out there. At 32″ the screen is small enough where 1080p won’t be noticeable unless you’re sitting really close to this television. The LN32A450 also sports the 1366 x 768 which is the best 720p resolution out there.

The Samsung LN-T4081F is 2008’s Cadillac of LCD HDTVs. It features LED back-lighting which allows this TV to produce a picture that rivals the high end plasmas while still pumping out enough brightness that it can perform in well lit rooms. The Samsung A950 line is replacing the LN-T4081F in 2009, but it doesn’t mean that the LN-T4081F’s still aren’t phenomenal TVs that blow away much of what 2009 has to offer (especially if you can get them at a discounted price!)

The Panasonic TH-46PZ80U is an great Plasma TV. Panasonic VIERAs are top of the line, second only to Pioneer’s pricey plasmas. Unless you’re holding out for a 1080p Plasma, this 720p Panasonic VIERA will get you the best picture for your dollar.

The Toshiba 52RV530U is an excellent 1080p @ 60Hz LCD going toe-to-toe with the ever popular Samsung LN52A550. The Toshiba 52RV530U looks great and has great picture quality — You really can’t go wrong on this model especially if you can find it discounted because its a 60hz set.
